On 1st – 2nd September 2017, some 40 brave members of the FK team are planning to cycle over 100 miles from Morecambe to York with the aim of raising over £10,000 for Brain Tumour Research.
It’s a cause that’s close to our hearts after a friend of the team, Sarah Gaffney-Lang, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2016 at the age of 29.
Sarah (who describes herself as currently “inconvenienced by a brain tumour”) knows a thing or two about learning to walk again (a work in progress) following complications in surgery. One phase of chemo and radiotherapy ticked off, she is currently in the midst of slightly less fun cycles of her own – a second phase of chemotherapy treatment.
Sarah is blogging about her experiences with the aim of proving there is plenty of life to be had with a brain tumour. You can read Sarah’s blog here or follow her on Instagram here for regular updates.
The FK team’s ride will see them complete 112 miles over 2 days across a route based on the Lancashire-Yorkshire ‘Way of the Roses’, including over 6,700 feet of climbing.
Training is well and truly underway so if you spot this unlikely crew on the roads of Cheshire over the next few weeks, give them a wave, and in the meantime please visit our Just Giving page (click here) and donate as generously as you can to support a brilliant cause.
