FK Group staff have raised over £27,000 for Brain Tumour Research after a group of some 40 staff completed a gruelling 112 mile bike ride over two days on 1st-2nd September.
The team’s route, based on the Lancashire-Yorkshire “Way of the Roses”, was from Morecambe to York with an overnight stop in Malham and included over 6,700 feet of climbing. Originally, they had hoped to raise £10,000 for the charity but generous donations from friends, family, clients and suppliers have allowed them to smash their target.
The bike ride, and nominated charity, was inspired after a colleague’s wife, Sarah Gaffney-Lang, was diagnosed with a grade 2 diffuse astrocytoma brain tumour a year ago at the age of 29.
Sarah (who describes herself as currently “inconvenienced by a brain tumour”) knows a thing or two about learning to walk again (a work in progress) following complications in surgery. One phase of chemo and radiotherapy ticked off, she is currently in the midst of slightly less fun cycles of her own – a further phase of chemotherapy treatment.
Sarah has been documenting her life with a brain tumour and writing about style and beauty on her blog zimmazimmathreecoursewinner.
